About This Blog:
- Neurosurgeon and Founder of NeuroMicroSpine Mark Giovanini, MD, and Orthopedic Surgeon Neil Romero, MD, of Lafayette, LA, implanted the first LDR ROI-C Titanium-Coated Cervical Cage.
- The ROI-C Titanium-Coated Cervical Cage is designed for patients with cervical spine degenerative disc disease, and it is recognized for its innovative, more efficient design.
- In this blog, we share the benefits of this new device and what Dr. Giovanini thinks about the ROI-C system’s impact on minimally invasive spine surgery.
On June 02, 2016, LDR Holding Corporation, a global medical device company, announced the initial implantations of the ROI-C® Titanium-Coated Cervical Cage, a device that helps mitigate cervical spine degenerative disc disease. NeuroMicroSpine’s Dr. Mark Giovanini performed the first implantation of this device with Dr. Neil Romero, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery and arthroplasty in Lafayette, Louisiana.
In a press release distributed by LDR Holding Corporation, Dr. Giovanini stated, “The addition of ROI-C Titanium-Coated implants is a big step forward. ROI-C’s VerteBRIDGE® plating system makes for procedural simplicity, and I could feel the additional friction provided by the titanium coating.”
Dr. Giovanini’s colleague who helped perform the surgery also shared that this new system requires fewer steps than most other systems on the market. Dr. Romero also stated the addition of the plasma sprayed titanium made the implant extremely beneficial to work with during surgery.
The ROI-C Titanium-Coated Implant System has a unique porous plasma-sprayed titanium coating on both the superior and inferior surfaces of the radiolucent PEEK-OPTIMA® cage, which allows for a small incision and a streamlined approach. This surgery demonstrates Dr. Mark Giovanini’s influence in the spine surgery industry – he remains on top of the leading, most cutting-edge technologies to ensure patients are receiving the best possible care. While this invention is still relatively new, its successful implantation may lead to other surgeries with this device.
Because this is still a developing story, the team at NeuroMicroSpine will continue to monitor the progress of this device for surgery.
